If you're a kiwi and are curious about our home compostable range; we've answered a few common questions we get below.
-
I don't eat Gluten, can I eat your Crisps?"Our crisps are 100% Natural, Real Food. They are Gluten & GMO Free and are Vegan-friendly, with no Added MSG or Trans Fats. We have an allergen-safe site, which means we ensure all our ingredients are supplied to us from allergen-free suppliers and producers. Our Crisps are also made with love, sunshine, and High Oleic Sunflower Oil - proudly Palm Oil Free - the Orangutans will thank you for it!
-
Are your products allergen free? All our potato crisp products are allergen free., we perform annual testing to always confirm we're maintaining this status and we work in with our suppliers to annually ensure there are no changes in ingredients. We are also proud to meet the new allergen labelling laws in New Zealand and Australia!

What Oil do you use?Maybe you’re reading on the back of our new Home Compostable bags, ‘High Oleic Expeller Pressed Sunflower Oil’, and scratching your head! Let’s keep this simple. This means it’s a minimally processed healthy oil that has literally been squeezed out of the sunflower seeds in one single step through the use of an intense force, without any added heat or chemicals. This process provides a toasted, nutty flavour which helps make our crisps taste so Proper! You can learn more about where our Oil used in our latest Home Compostable Bags comes from by visiting our oil supplier’s website, Pure Oil New Zealand Limited . We are also pleased to announce that our High Oleic Sunflower Oil in selected Home Compostable bags is also now Cold Pressed and the sunflowers are grown and manufactured in Canterbury, New Zealand! As for High Oleic Sunflower Oil, (pronounced oh-lay-ick), it’s a type of sunflower oil that has a high concentration of the fatty acid - oleic acid - a monounsaturated fatty acid which is in rich supply in olive oil and macadamia nuts – the good fats! For oil to qualify as High Oleic, the Oleic Acid percentage needs to be over 80%... Ours is 83%! We use High Oleic Sunflower Oil because it is low in saturated fat, has no trans-fat and adds a golden, nutty-taste to our Proper Crisps. Maybe that’s one of the reasons why our Proper Potato & Vegetable Crisps have a 3.5 Health Star Rating!

Why are your Kumara Crisps different colours?Don't worry, we haven't got the Garden Medley and the Kumara crisps mixed up! We use a Seasonal Medley of Kumara from the team at Kaipara Kumara in Northland. In each bag we have batch-cooked in High Oleic Sunflower Oil – Orange (Beureguard), Red (Owairaka), Gold Kumara (Toka Toka) Purple Dawn, and other seasonal varieties, and lightly sprinkled with Marlborough Sea Salt – uniquely Proper! We work with the seasons, so you may only find Purple Dawn in your Winter packs of Proper Crisps. Isn't nature neat?
-
Why is there Sugar in your Cider Vinegar Crisps? As you are probably aware we only use natural ingredients, no food additives at all. We add the smallest amount of sugar to balance out the flavor and counter act the acid to create a more fuller and rounder flavor. We selected raw sugar as this is less processed than white sugar and is a much better alternative to Maltodextrins E965 (a food additive). The amount of sugar we add is so low, that it doesn't even affect the nutritionals between this bag and our other flavours!

We are working towards supporting sponsorship opportunities that have same vision.
